During a merger & acquisition he guided me through finding the skills and tools needed to transform the multi-company-wide technical portfolio into one portfolio. We covered high-level discovery/architecture work, how I can avoid the "ivory tower architect" trap, how to provide direction and delegate to others, strategic use of DDD, Wardley mapping, and more techniques that helped me plan, communicate and keep things moving in the right direction. |

The Diagram your Architecture workshop with Brian helped to breakdown the thought process of practically applying the C4 Architecture model. I have gone from drawing cluttered and confused diagrams which didn't aid conversations to now being able to produce clear and consistent diagrams which I continually refer back to in conversations with both technical and non-technical people. |

We started with a simply described, pretty regular problem that one can get in a big tech project, and during the two weeks of workshops we ended up so far away from how I would usually solve it. Brian gradually introduced us to a tool belt of approaches and ways to think about, analyse and solve a problem. Change management theory, issue trees were for me personally the discoveries that I will use not only in my professional life, but also in my private life. Overall Brian gave me a healthy mix of practical recommendations and theoretical basis of how to be a good engineering manager. There's much to discover for me on my way to become a great manager, but this workshop is a great foundation. |
